Reaching Out to People with Disabilities
Terry Williams/MAZE Consulting

Tuesday, 23 March 2010, 15:00 EDT/19:00 GMT (60 minutes, $15)
Registration closes 22 March

Terry was unable to conduct her scheduled presentation at the conference earlier this month. She has graciously agreed to conduct a special session on Tuesday, 23 March, for all conference attendees. Additional registrants are welcome to attend by using the registration link below.

Description:

Many stakeholder engagement practitioners are challenged by the difficulty of ensuring inclusion of the disenfranchised and the hard-to-reach in public consultations. This session offers some insight into the complexities of reaching out to people with disabilities, and provides suggestions for supporting involvement of a considerable segment of our society that is often not well represented in public participation activities.  Three major aspects of working with people with disabilities are discussed: the invitation (reaching out), understanding the range of disabilities that may be encountered, and criteria to be considered when selecting a venue and planning the event.

All participants will receive a complimentary copy of Terry's handbook, Enhancing the Public Participation Experience of Persons with Disabilities.
